Introducing Code School: CodeCrew Establishes a Program for Young Adults

Founded in May 2015 by Petya Grady, Audrey Jones-Willis, and Meka Egwuekwe, CodeCrew is a Memphis-based organization that strives to provide local youth with in-depth computer training in order to fill the digital skills gap in the city. However, now CodeCrew is expanding its resources to young adults ages 16-30.

In order to accommodate its new coders, CodeCrew is introducing Code School, an interactive, hands-on program that will teach the real world applications of coding to young adults in the Memphis area. This program hopes to prepare its students for a successful career.

Upon completion of the program, students will receive an industry recognized certificate.

Instead of applying, students must be nominated by a teaching professional, mentor, community leader, or other professional that is not a relative. Nominations are currently being accepted and will remain open until April 6, 2018.

Our decision to expand to serve young adults was inspired by both our city’s workforce needs and one of our students. -Meka Egwuekwe

Following the nomination process, students must submit an application that accesses their readiness for the program. The deadline for that application is April 13, 2018. Finally, qualified applicants will be invited for an in-person interview.

CodeCrew’s Code school will be accepting 25 students to its program.
