Stages of Statistical Information Processing

Before collecting statistical data, you need to answer a few questions:

  • What calculations to make? The answer to this question depends on the chosen statistical method: variance, correlation, arithmetic mean and deviation, etc.

  • How to determine the degree of dependence between several indicators? In this case, correlation coefficients will help, which will help to establish not only causal relationships, but also the strength of the influence of each individual parameter on the result.

  • How to determine the effectiveness of treatment in relation to the objects of study? Here it is important to understand how the proposed measures affect each subject, and the entire sample as a whole. You can determine the effect using non-parametric methods, T-criteria. Most often, the authors use analysis of variance and the Kruskal-Wallis test.

  • How to analyze survival in each group of subjects? Here practice and its analysis or additional tools will come to the rescue: the logarithmic rank criterion, the Gehan-Wilconson criterion, etc.

It is important at each stage of the study to determine what data the author has and how they can be analyzed / presented (that is, to choose an appropriate methodology that emphasizes the capabilities of the researcher).
