Middle School (5th-8th)

 

During the school year, CodeCrew after school classes offer middle school children different subjects of computer science from robotics to mobile apps to video game development.

  • Starts: Week of August 21, 2023

  • Ends: Week of November 13th, 2023

  • Classes offered: (Sign up for each class separately below)

    • Tuesday - Virtual Reality â€‹

    • Wednesday - Video Game Development()

  • Museum of Science and History - MoSH (formerly the Pink Palace) ​
  • Cost per class: One time $10 per student (administrative fee) for the entire semester.

  • Time: 4:30pm - 6:00pm CST (For all classes)

  • Important dates

    • August 17th - Parent Orientation at MoSH (5:30pm)

    • October 9 - 13th (Fall Break)

    • September 4th: No class for VR (Labor Day) 

    • Demo/Presentation week November 16th

Virtual Reality (Tuesday)

Students utilize the CoSpaces development engine and learn computer science through virtual reality programming. Students build 3D worlds while experimenting with animations, collision detection, particle systems, and physics. Students play and test simulations with peers and complete projects centered on individual areas of interest such as building a virtual pet, rock band, or Moon base gravity lab.

Video Game Development in G-Develop (Wednesday)

Middle School Video Game Class will be learning the easy-to-use GDevelop Game Engine. They will learn basic game design theory, block coding, art, etc. They will learn how to make a variety of video games, such as platformers.
