Memphian honored as ‘Doritos SOLID BLACK Changemaker’

Memphis-based content creator Katie Robinson has been named a ‘SOLID BLACK Changemaker' by Doritos and gets to donate $25,000 to the charity of her choice.

SOLID BLACK is an ongoing initiative that provides resources and a platform for Black Changemakers who use innovation and boldness to drive culture and give back to their communities, according to the Doritos company website.

Robinson, also known as "PikaChulita," has been creating content on Twitch for over seven years. Her content centers around creating safe, supportive, and fun spaces for marginalized people, especially those who are Black, Brown, or LGBTQIA+.

Robinson is one of four creators who will receive $200,000 from Doritos. An additional $125,000 will be donated to five non-profit organizations that support the next generation of Black community activists and leaders.

She also gets to choose a non-profit to receive $25,000 from Doritos.

Robinson chose CodeCrew, a non-profit that mentors underrepresented youth to be tech innovators and leaders.

Since May 2015, CodeCrew has taught more than 2,000 students to code through summer camps, after-school programs, in-school classes, and special events.

According to the group's website, they serve about 500 kids weekly. 91% are Black and Latinx youth, 41% are girls who code, and overall, 89% of the students are more likely to study computer science.

Robinson also raises money for non-profits and community members in need multiple times a year. Over the last three years, she has raised over $25,000 for various causes.
